#6 Steve Jobs’ Talk

Today, I would like to share five vocabulary that I learned from Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Address. Then, I will conclude this article with my feedback about it. By the way, if you are interested in this speech, the link is in the right sidebar, feel free to check it out

Vocabulary

1. commencement (noun): a ceremony at which university, college, or high school students receive their diplomas
Example: Colin Powell was asked to give the commencement address.

2. intuition (noun): the ability to understand or know something because of a feeling rather than by considering the facts
Example: She thought the baby would be a girl, and her intuition was correct.

3. diagnosis (noun): the process of discovering exactly what is wrong with someone or something, by examining them closely
Example: A diagnosis would not be made for 48 hours, until the results of blood tests are returned.

4. settle (verb): to end an argument or solve a disagreement
Example: Rodman met with Kreeger to try and settle the dispute over his contract.

5. dogma (noun): a set of firm beliefs held by a group of people who expect other people to accept these beliefs without thinking about them
Example: The solution offered might not conform to the dogma of either political party.

Feedback

Whether we did ever watch his speech before or not, we cannot deny that Steve Jobs was a person with great influential ability in 21st century. And after watched his speech, I cannot admire him enough. He was not a God's favored son, on the contrary, he was an adopted child and did not have diploma. Even when he was the co-founder of Apple Inc., he was still fired by the company he built up. Through thick and thin, he still had positive attitude about life and keep passion on what he likes and those are what I wish I would like to learn and practice them in my whole life.

Moreover, I would like to share a quote from the first story he told“you can’t connect the dots looking forward; You can only connect them looking backward.” I believe this quote reminds us that we have to take serious attitude on everything whether it is big or small.

Comments
